The ReCreate Project

America's most untapped creative talent is inside a prison.

A 501(c)(3) creative career program operating inside correctional facilities, built and led by The Captain's Method team.

The Problem

Society is missing out.

2.2 million people with real creative potential are behind bars, and no one has built the path to bring their work into the world. Their creativity exists. We just never see it.

The Insight

Creativity isn't rare. Opportunity is.

That instinct (solving problems under constraint) is the same instinct behind every creative career. We redirect it.

Lighter from a battery

MP3 player mechanics stripped and rewired to produce a flame. No tools. No instructions.

Photo frames from ramen wrappers

Family photos sent home in handmade frames assembled from food packaging.

Salt & pepper shaker

Popsicle sticks and gum wrappers turned into a working storage container.

The Thesis

Leadership is creativity. Creativity is leadership.

They are flip sides of the same coin, the same underlying capability: pattern recognition under pressure. We watch it work the same way in a boardroom and a cell block.

CEOs, Founders, Owners, Emerging Leaders

Trained through The Captain's Method to recognize patterns, read situations accurately, and act.

Incarcerated Participants

Trained through Creative FIT to recognize the exact same capability already inside them.

The Pipeline

The path from incarcerated to creative professional didn't exist. We're building it.

Now · Discovery

Discover the instinct

A cohort-based program inside the facility. Participants begin to see themselves as creative professionals, many for the first time.

Building · Education

Train the skill

Client briefs. A formal academic pathway through our signed MOU with Ensign College. Discovery becomes skill.

The Vision · Careers

Launch the career

A post-release creative network: mentorship, placement, and belonging in an industry that was never built for them. Until now.

Proof, Before a Single Major Donor

Here's what already exists.

All of this: self-funded, volunteer-led. Proof the model works before a single major donor has stepped in.

The Ask

Establishing the Salt Lake County hub.

We're raising a $10 million endowment to secure our Salt Lake County home base, drawing 5.5% per year to permanently fund operations serving 6,000 inmates across juvenile detention, women's, and men's facilities.

$10M
Endowment goal: 5.5% annual draw secures Salt Lake County permanently

From this hub, we expand systematically through grants and local donations: the same repeatable model, city by city, eventually internationally. SLC becomes the training center; every other location runs on grants and local support, the way this one does.

Talent Scouts, everywhere

Our Talent Scouts look for capability everywhere they go, including inside these facilities. To get certified, they must log real training hours working directly with inmates. It's not a talking point; it's required.

A symbiotic system

The Captain's Method, Creative FIT, and ReCreate feed each other: certification needs ReCreate's practicum hours, ReCreate needs trained facilitators, and the whole system sustains itself for decades, not one grant cycle.

Nearly all of every dollar goes to impact. A small fraction funds facilitator training; those facilitators then train the incarcerated participants directly. It's an unusually direct dollar-to-impact ratio, by our own accounting.

A Story Still Being Written

This exists without you. Imagine what it becomes with you.

$3,093 funds one person through the full program: less than five weeks of what it costs to keep them incarcerated.
